The Ronettes: I Can Hear Music

Square

This wonderful song was written by Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich and Phil Spector for the Ronettes. It was released in 1966 and unbelievably was a flop, spending just one week in the US chart at No 100.

In 1969 the Beach Boys released a cover which got to No 24 in the US and 10 in Britain.

In 2000 Ronnie Spector and Brian Wilson (who was not on the Beach Boys recording) gave a combined performance. (Don’t watch if you prefer your idols forever young.)

While looking around YouTube I found this demo of the song by Phil Spector. It’s not quite finished, by the sound of it, but you get the idea. I love Phil Spector, whatever he has done. The man is a genius who enriched pop music to the nth degree.
