Lorraine Ellison: Stay With Me

Square

This song was recorded at two days’ notice in 1966 after Frank Sinatra cancelled a studio booking with a 46-piece orchestra. Offered the session free of charge, co-writer Jerry Ragovoy and arranger Garry Sherman quickly worked up an orchestral arrangement and called in Lorraine Ellison to sing it with the orchestra. It reached No 64 in the US chart.

There is also a great version by Steve Marriott but his recording history is so complex that I cannot be certain when it was made. Near as I can tell it was 1972.
