Buddy Holly: That’ll Be the Day

Square

This was written by Buddy Holly and drummer Jerry Allison. It was first recorded by Buddy Holly and the Three Tunes by Decca in 1956 but it was not released at that point.

In 1957 Holly re-recorded it for Brunswick with his new group, the Crickets, and it topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic. Decca then released their version but it did not make the charts.

This is a live performance on the Ed Sullivan Show on December 1, 1957.

In 1958 the Quarrymen, the group which evolved into the Beatles, made an amateur recording.
