Bobby Vee: Go Away Little Girl

Square

This was written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King. It was first recorded by Bobby Vee for Liberty Records on March 28, 1962, but as far as I can see it was not released as a single. I can’t understand why. It appeared on his 1963 album The Night has a Thousand Eyes.

Meanwhile Mark Wynter released it as a single in 1962 and took it to No 6 in Britain.

In America Steve Lawrence released it in November 1962, and it went to No 1 in America in January 1963.

In 1971 Donny Osmond’s toe-curling version went to No 1 in the States, making it the first of nine songs to reach US number 1 by two different artists.
