Bowie wrote this for his fifth studio album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. It was released as a single in April 1972, reaching No 10 in Britain and No 65 in the States.
This performance was broadcast on Top of the Pops on July 6, 1972. The vocals were live to a backing track recorded the previous day.
