I have said before that I feel Elton would have been perfectly at home in the 60s. This cheery number, written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin, was recorded in 1972 for the 1973 album Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only the Piano Player. It was advance released on October 27 1972 in the UK, where it reached No 5, and on November 20 1972 where it became Elton’s first US number one single in February 1973.
