Carl Perkins: Wrong Yo Yo

Square

This was first recorded in 1930 by Rufus George Perryman, known as Speckled Red, but I am not sure if he wrote it or if it is ‘traditional’. (I have wasted an hour trying to find out.)

Twenty-one years later, in 1951, it was recorded again by his younger brother Willie Lee Perryman, known at that time as Piano Red and later as Dr Feelgood.

Here’s a live performance which I prefer.

Willie Lee recorded it again in 1961 as Dr Feelgood and the Interns.

Carl Perkins recorded it in 1956 and it was released on his 1957 Dance Album.

Gerry and the Pacemakers recorded a good version for their 1963 debut album How Do You Like It?
