The Byrds: Eight Miles High

Square

This was written by group members Gene Clark, Roger McGuinn and David Crosby and was inspired by their airline flight to London in August 1965. It was released in 1966 and banned by some US radio stations for its perceived drug connotations, which Clark and Crosby later admitted. It reached No 14 in America and No 24 in Britain.

Here they are miming but the sound quality is inferior.

This is a live performance from 1970.

  1. “Eight Miles High” is a fantastic sounding record and very different for its time. The Who’s “I Can See For Miles” has a similar feel.
