The Shadows: FBI

Square

This was written by Shadows members Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch and Jet Harris but for contractual reasons it was credited to their manager Peter Gormley. It was released in the UK in February 1961 and reached No 6. It got nowhere in the US.

This is a must watch video.

  1. What a fantastic sound they had. There’s a famous film of them playing in front of a member of the Royal Family (Princess Margaret I think), doing their dance steps and with the amplifiers on dining chairs. It seems primitive but not many subsequent rock groups could match their sound for power and clarity.

Another group with a great stage routine was Casey Jones and the Governors. They were a Merseybeat group who became very popular in Germany.

That song was later done to great effect by Doctor Feelgood.
