  1. That’s one of the greats.

A short series could be made about ambiguous drug songs, i.e. songs thought to be about drugs but which the artists denied were. “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds”, “Up Up and Away”, “Eight Miles High” etc.

Two of the most blatant and unambiguous songs about drugs to become big hits were “Itchycoo Park” and “Here Comes The Nice”. Still played on the radio today, but I wonder how those songs went down at the time they were released? I don’t know as I wasn’t around, but I reckon there probably wasn’t much of a fuss as the general public weren’t familiar with drug lingo back then, and wouldn’t have known what the songs were about. Drug language is heard regularly in everyday speech now, often by people who don’t know that it is drug language.

  2. Another (very) short series: Songs which include the lyric “It’s all too beautiful”.

I only know of two; “Itchycoo Park” by the Small Faces and “Afterwards” by Van Der Graaf Generator.
