Gerry and the Pacemakers: You’ll Never Walk Alone

Square

This has been all but ruined by its use as a football anthem but when it came out it was stunning. The song comes from the dark 1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Carousel. It was the third UK No 1 hit in a row in 1963 for Gerry and the Pacemakers, following How Do You Do It and I Like It. They never topped the charts again.

Here is the song in the 1956 film Carousel.

  1. I agree, it is a stunning record and Gerry and the Pacemakers are a fine group. My favourite of theirs is “Don’t Let The Sun Catch You Crying”.
