Billy Fury: King for Tonight

Square

This is a brilliant song which is strangely underrated. There are two excellent versions but Billy Fury gets the headline because he is one of my all-time favourites.

The song was written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman for Barry Darvell, who released it in 1962 as the B-side of Adam and Eve. I can’t find a chart position.

Billy Fury covered it in the same year as the B-side of Last Night was Made for Love, which reached No 4 in Britain.
