Gene Pitney: Backstage

Square

One of the high drama numbers in which Pitney specialised. This one was written by Fred Anisfield and Willie Denson and released in 1966, reaching No 2 in America and No 4 in the UK.

  1. Gosh! I don’t know how you do it. You must have a magic crystal or something. I haven’t thought about Gene Pitney in a hundred years and here – here from the UK – I find the forgotten music of my life. The man had a unique voice, and chose his music well.

Don’t know if you are aware but this song, Who Shot Liberty Valance, is a cover of the soundtrack from one of the best Westerns ever made, “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance”, starring ‘The Duke’ and Jimmy Stewart.
