Don Gibson/The Searchers: Sea of Heartbreak

Square

THIS was written by Hal David and Paul Hampton, and released by Don Gibson in 1961. It reached No 21 in America and 14 in Britain.

The Searchers recorded it for their 1964 album It’s The Searchers, and it was also on an EP called Play the System. It was never released as a single, which is a shame because I think it is one of their best tracks.

It has been recorded by numerous other artists, including the Everlys. I love most of their songs but I can’t bear this one on their 1967 album, The Hit Sound of the Everly Brothers. It’s a shocker.
