This song was written by Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich and Phil Spector. The Dixie Cups took it to No 1 in the US in 1964, and No 22 in Britain. It was ranked at 279 on Rolling Stone‘s list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
Phil Spector gave it the treatment for the Ronettes’ debut studio album, Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes Featuring Veronica, released in November 1964.
The Beach Boys recorded it for their 1976 album, 15 Big Ones.
Elton John did a terrific rocking version for the closing credits of the 1994 film Four Weddings and a Funeral.
