This was written by Trevor Peacock, a noted 1960s songwriter now better known for playing Jim Trott in the BBC comedy series The Vicar of Dibley.
It peaked at No 3 in Britain in 1963.
Trevor Peacock wrote another great song which would have a listing of its own if the two recordings of it were not so poor. Mrs Brown You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter was originally sung by actor Tom Courtenay in The Lads, a British TV play of 1963, and released as a single. It was bad.
Herman’s Hermits recorded it in 1965 and it went to No 1 in America. It was not released in Britain. It was terrible.
I will ignore the version by Alvin and the Chipmunks.
