Alison Krauss did a more romantic and tuneful version in 1995 on her album Now That I’ve Found You: A Collection. It was released as a single but was not a big success, making No 49 on the US Country chart and 121 in Britain.
I’ve always liked that clip of The Foundations, it is very 1967. Everyone is on the cusp of sensible, old-fashioned dressing and let-it-all-hang-out flower-power. The singer hits a few bum notes, but it’s a great live performance and I wouldn’t change anything about it.
