Next in the Phil Spector season is this song which he co-wrote with husband and wife team Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich. It was first recorded by Darlene Love in 1963 with Spector producing, but he was not happy with the result and it was not released until 1991 on Love’s album Back to Mono.
In 1964 the Dixie Cups recorded it with Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller producing. It went to No 1 in America and No 22 in Britain.
It was included on the Ronettes’ debut album released in November 1964 with production by Spector.
