This was written by Burt Bacharach and Bob Hilliard. It was released by Gene McDaniels in September 1961 and reached No 5 in America.
I never thought I would feature Frankie Vaughan in this column, but his version was not at all bad. It was released in Britain the same year (I can’t find out whether before or after McDaniels) and got to No 1 here.
