VAMP was a supergroup; the name an acronym of the surnames of its members The “P” was Viv Prince, the Pretty Things’ drummer and one of the wild men of 1960s rock.
‘It sounds nothing like Bowie, so I’ve always been baffled as to why anyone would have thought it was him. The only reason I can think of is the singer’s pronunciation of the words “Floating”, “so” and “close”, in a hammy cockney way as Bowie used to do.
