Written by Bob Feldman, Jerry Goldstein and Richard Gottehrer, this was first recorded by the McCoys in 1965 and released as the B-side of their single Fever, which reached No 7 in the States and No 44 in Britain.
The Merseys, a duo comprising Tony Crane and Billy Kinsley, founders of the disbanded Merseybeats, released the song in 1966 and reached No 4 in Britain. I am not sure if it was released in America. It was better than the McCoys’ version in my opinion.
David Bowie recorded it in 1973 for his album Pin Ups. It made No 3 in Britain. It was a bit different.
