Skeeter Davis: The End of the World

Square

I have just read that this is to be the theme song of a new film called Eternals, and I realised I hadn’t mentioned it here.

It was one of my great favourites in my early days as a pop fan. I love Skeeter Davis’s pure voice. It was written for her by composer Arthur Kent and lyricist Sylvia Dee, and recorded in the RCA Studios in Nashville on June 8, 1962. It was released in December 1962 and reached No 2 in America and No 18 in Britain early in 1963. It was produced by Chet Atkins and was played at his funeral in 2001.

I also like this version by Brenda Lee from her 1963 album Let Me Sing.
