Here’s a song which BBC Radio 2 announced was the 43rd best ever written. To illustrate the sheer fatuousness of this, No 1 was A Whiter Shade of Pale, 2 was Bohemian Rhapsody and 3 Robbie Williams’s Angels. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/soldonsong/top100/top100_40.shtml/ Strangely, no place for Gigantic, by the Pixies, or Montana, by Frank Zappa. Bohemian Rhapsody? Gawd ‘elp us. Anyway, this is good from The Jam.
The Jam had a great run of singles; my favourites were “Funeral Pyre”, “Down In The Tube Station” and “Strange Town”. Their albums were never too good though.
Recently I read this review by Mick Farren, from 1977, of the Jam’s second LP. It’s entertaining!
