Apologies if this is too similar to yesterday’s track, but it reminded me of this terrific number by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, recorded by Dionne Warwick in August 1962 and released that autumn as her debut single. It reached number 21 in the US. (Despite what it says on YouTube, this is the original record.)
The Swinging Blue Jeans did a reasonable version in 1966, though I think the added intro is a mistake. It got to No 31 in the UK.
A great song in both versions.
I’ve always confused “Don’t Make Me Over” with “You Don’t Own Me” as there are similarities.
But then I confuse “Message to Martha” with “Take A Message To Mary”.
As I get older, I get more confused.

The song “Stay With Me” is very well suited to Steve Marriott, and I hadn’t heard his version before. The fretless base dates it to the 1980s!
