Written by the great Randy Newman, this was released by the Nashville Teens in 1967. For the first time in this series, I can’t find out if it got into the charts. I am pretty sure it didn’t do well, though it should have done.
It was covered the same year by Harpers Bizarre. Newman had been a member of their forerunner group, the Tikis. Again I can’t find out if it got anywhere. I give this link for the sake of completeness but do yourself a favour and don’t listen to it. It’s crap.
The Alan Price Set did it in 1968 on the album A Price on his Head, but I can’t find it on YouTube. It’s a pity because Price did a brilliant version of another Newman song, Tickle Me, which I have already covered here, https://am-records.com/2019/06/26/randy-newman-tickle-me/ but let’s have it again.
