This was written by the great Steve Marriott though it was credited on the record to him and fellow Small Faces member Ronnie Lane. It was released in December 1967, reaching No 9 in Britain but only 73 in America. This led their label Immediate to abandon attempts to crack the American market.
In 1997 readers of Mojo voted Tin Soldier the tenth best single of all time, in a readers’ poll.
