- RELEASED in 1958, this is my favourite Buddy Holly number. It was written by Holly’s friend Bob Montgomery (they performed at high school in Lubbock, Texas as Buddy and Bob) and his record producer Norman Petty. This is despite the fact that it has one of the worst lines in pop history: ‘Piddle dee pat’. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5Sdrvetm0w The B-side was Well . . . All Right, written by Holly, Petty and two members of his backing group The Crickets, Joe B. Mauldin and Jerry Allison. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5AnUctpQXI This has gone on to be a rock standard.
